Well, the tea has been spilled. The problem with Tulsa is that many city leaders and too many white Tulsans fail to understand how centuries of institutional slavery helped perpetuate the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
Whites felt Blacks were below them and sought to eliminate us. It’s so interesting how Mayor GT Bynum denies slavery in his family when he can trace his family line back to the early 1600s Jamestown, Virginia.
He also indirectly says that slavery wasn’t a criminal act and that Blacks think reparations is a divisive topic. He’s clearly rattled in this interview.
Mayor Bynum’s family benefited from free Black labor since the 1600s, yet today, he doesn’t want the same systemic structures to be held accountable for racial violence.

White hypocrisy will continue to be the failure of Tulsa.
We have 6 months to racial reconciliation and reparations, and if we don’t get it, I’m willing to bet we see major corporations pulling out of Tulsa and Oklahoma.
